September 16, 1-2 p.m. Eastern | Raising & Managing Capital
Dr. Keri Jacobs, University of Missouri, with Dr. Phil Kenkel, Oklahoma State University, in conversation with Todd Eskelsen, Esq., Eskelsen Law Group, LLC

A practical and engaging conversation with three influential thought leaders in cooperative governance, capitalization, and operations, digging deeply into the principles and applications of raising, managing, revolving, and distributing cooperative capital.

November 18, 1-2 p.m. Eastern | Institutional & Community Investment
Jenny Kassan, Esq., Jason Wiener | p.c. and Louis McIntire, CoBank in conversation with Bill Scott, CPA, CliftonLarsonAllen LLP

Cooperative businesses might access capital from various sources as they start or grow, including from institutions, like banks, or from community-based funders and investors. This session will explore what professionals who support cooperative enterprises need to know about community and institutional capital tools, including when and why cooperatives might pursue specific capital sources, tradeoffs related to control, risk, complexity, and cost for different kinds of capital, and the connections between capital choices, governance, and member relations.

November 18, 2-3 p.m. Eastern | Distributing Profits Cooperatively
Dave Antoni, CPA, Baker Tilly and Brent Lackey, Kentucky Center for Agriculture and Rural Development

Cooperatives return profits to members based on their use of the business, but these distributions affect far more than patron payouts. They influence a cooperative’s finances, tax obligations, and member relationships, while also impacting patrons’ personal finances and taxes. This session will explore key considerations and provide the knowledge practitioners need to confidently advise cooperatives and their members.

Participants can attend one session or all three.

Webinars will be presented via Zoom with automated closed captions. If you wish to request traditional CART services or other accommodations such as interpretation, please contact Ann Luther at luther.111@osu.edu or 740-289-1952.
