Course Description

Internal controls Whose responsibilities are they? Do they just protect the Company? What about the employees of the Company? Does a system of checks and balances have to be complicated? This session will look at these questions and others as we explore the various transaction cycles that tend to pose the most significant internal control risks to both small and large organizations. The information covered in this session is intended to assist the participants in improving their internal control policies and procedures to minimize the likelihood of misappropriations or misstatements and maximize the likelihood of detection, if it occurs.

Presenter and Moderator Bios

Presenter: Clay T. Worden, CPA

CLAY T. WORDEN Clay graduated from Flagler College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting. He completed Florida's Certified Public Accountants' educational requirements at the University of South Florida. Clay served as an Audit Manager in KPMG Peat Marwick's Orlando office. He joined KPMG in 1991. Prior to that, he was a Staff Accountant for Christopher, Smith and Gentile in Bradenton, Florida. Clay's client engagements included numerous large agricultural operations, not-for-profits, manufacturing, real estate developers, construction companies, professional service firms, automotive dealerships and entertainment entities. He has also assisted various clients with SEC filings, acquisitions and bank financing. Clay's primary focus has been providing assurance services to a variety of clients. He has assisted in the preparation of industry benchmarking studies and has developed an in-depth working knowledge of cooperatives, not-for-profits, and the manufacturing industry. Clay has used his understanding of these industries and his accounting background to provide value-added operational improvement opportunities to numerous clients. Clay's experience with middle market clients and his passion to assist clients in achieving profitable results provide the framework and insight needed to improve client's operating efficiencies. Clay's professional and community affiliations include: Licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Florida; Member of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants; and Treasurer for International Accounts Payable Professionals, Inc; Director for the National Society of Cooperative Accountants; UCF Small Business Development Advisory Board Council; Orlando Business Journal's Executive Advisory Board Exchange and is actively involved with the Golden Rule, Ronald McDonald House and other charitable organizations.

Delivery System

  • All programs are delivered using the Zoom platform.
  • Confirmations will include log-in instructions.
  • Participants are able to participate using any device with an Internet connect (if the device does not have speakers, the participant can also dial-in) or they can participate with audio only by dialing in.
  • All registrants will receive a link to the CLN’s recording by email within 48 business hours of event’s conclusion.
  • There will be assistance available to help with technical and connectivity issues up to 10 minutes prior to the start of the presentation.

Registration

All registration is done on-line and each guest must provide their name and email address to participate. All NSAC members may register for free. Non-members may register for a nominal fee.

Refund Policy

NSAC will not issue refunds for CLNs. If a registrant is unable to participate in the CLN and provides notification to info@nsacoop.org 48 hours prior to the session, a credit will be provided for a future CLN. Alert the NSAC staff member monitoring the CLN if technical difficulties are encountered and technical support will be provided to eliminate problems with future CLNs.

Additional Information

Live participation is required for CPE credit and polling questions must be answered to document your active participation. All registrants will receive an email following the session with links to the slides and/or handouts, and a link to the CLN recording (unless otherwise stated). If you are unable to participate in the live session, you can still watch the recorded session, but you will not be eligible for CPE credits. Those eligible for credits will receive their certificate by email with 7 business days.
