Course Description

Join us for an informative overview of new FASB standards that could impact your organization. This session will explore recent developments in the financial accounting standards relevant to cooperatives. Guest speakers Randy Throener and Amy Schreck will discuss the latest FASB guidance so attendees can successfully implement these recent amendments.

Presenter and Moderator Bios

Presenter: Randy F. Throener, CPA, Partner, BKD CPAs & Advisors

Randy is an audit partner for BKD CPA & Advisors, a top 15 CPA firm. He is the national leader of BKD’s agribusiness practice and leads the manufacturing, transportation and distribution team in Nebraska. Randy is also a member of BKD National Commercial Services Group. He has more than 25 years of experience in public accounting, providing audit and consulting services to a variety of clients, including agribusiness cooperatives, processors, producers and distributors as well as manufacturing and distribution and private equity-owned entities. He has extensive experience in hedge accounting, mergers and acquisitions, inventory valuation, cost analysis and stock-based compensation. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, Nebraska Society of Certified Public Accountants and BKD Foundation Committee. He is a graduate of Leadership Lincoln and Leadership Nebraska. Randy is a 1994 honors graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University, Lincoln, with a B.S. degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting.

Presenter: Amy Shreck, Director, BKD CPAs & Advisors

Amy is a member of BKD National Public Sector Group and has more than 16 years of experience working with governmental entities, not-for-profits and higher education institutions. She leads the BKD Center of Excellence for the Public Sector, an internal committee of public sector leaders across the firm who discuss a variety of issues important to the public sector. She completed a two-year term as a practice fellow with the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) at its headquarters, where she helped to formulate standards and assisted with technical inquiries. Amy’s experience at GASB allows her to help clients better understand GASB standards and the thought process behind the standards. Amy is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Nebraska Society of Certified Public Accountants. She also is a frequent presenter at the Great Plains chapter of GFOA conferences, speaking on financial reporting changes, including new GASB statements and projects. She is a graduate of Leadership Omaha Class 37 and serves on the Nebraska BKD Foundation Advisory Committee. She previously served on the Goodwill Industries Serving Southeast Nebraska board of directors and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Accountancy Junior Advisory Board. Amy is a graduate with highest distinction of University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a B.S. degree in business administration and an M.P.A. degree.

Moderator: Bill Erlenbush, CPA, Director of Education, NSAC

Bill Erlenbush spent his entire career working in cooperative accounting at GROWMARK. His work experience includes all aspects of order control and billing, accounts receivable/payable, financial accounting, and tax. As compliance officer, he had responsibility for the administration of the compliance and ethics program at GROWMARK and its subsidiaries and retail divisions. In addition, he was been involved in negotiating major acquisitions for GROWMARK. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from the University of Illinois and an MBA from Illinois State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant. Bill is an active member in many industry, professional, and community organizations. He is past president of the Mclean County United Way Board of Directors as well as the past president of the Heartland Community College Foundation Board of Directors.

Delivery System

  • All programs are delivered using the Zoom platform.
  • Confirmations will include log-in instructions.
  • Participants are able to participate using any device with an Internet connect (if the device does not have speakers, the participant can also dial-in) or they can participate with audio only by dialing in.
  • All registrants will receive a link to the CLN’s recording by email within 48 business hours of event’s conclusion.
  • There will be assistance available to help with technical and connectivity issues up to 10 minutes prior to the start of the presentation.

Registration

All registration is done on-line and each guest must provide their name and email address to participate. All NSAC members may register for free. Non-members may register for a nominal fee.

Refund Policy

NSAC will not issue refunds for CLNs. If a registrant is unable to participate in the CLN and provides notification to info@nsacoop.org 48 hours prior to the session, a credit will be provided for a future CLN. Alert the NSAC staff member monitoring the CLN if technical difficulties are encountered and technical support will be provided to eliminate problems with future CLNs.

Additional Information

Live participation is required for CPE credit and polling questions must be answered to document your active participation. All registrants will receive an email following the session with links to the slides and/or handouts, and a link to the CLN recording (unless otherwise stated). If you are unable to participate in the live session, you can still watch the recorded session, but you will not be eligible for CPE credits. Those eligible for credits will receive their certificate by email with 7 business days.
