Course Description
The global economy and agriculture will begin significant transitions in the year ahead. The pace of these transitions will have significant implications for the realignments in the U.S. food, fiber and agriculture sectors and the evolution of domestic and global supply chains. This session will examine the major players in driving global growth and the implications for U.S. agriculture export potential. A review of the growth catalyst for the U.S. economy will provide insights into the strength of domestic demand. The session will also include a review of the changes in the major agricultural commodity markets. Grain and oilseed prices have fallen sharply with the significant increase in global supplies and profit margins have improved dramatically for the animal protein, ethanol and dairy sectors. Increased global competition for export markets, changes in farm programs and continuing large grain and oilseed supplies would force realignments of grain destinations, animal protein and dairy production, acreages, land values, rental rates, input utilization and the respective supply chains.
