Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our accounting team. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, month-end and year-end closing processes, audits, and ensuring the accuracy and compliance of financial transactions. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of accounting principles. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

Essential Responsibilities, include but are not limited to:

 

Bluestem Entities:

· Prepare and/or review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Maintain relationships with all third party management companies.

· Monitor grants and other funding compliance and reporting requirements for State and Local agencies.

· Analyze financial data and variances to assist in decision-making and provide actionable insights to management.

· Review financial reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with corporate policies.

 

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

· Oversee all Bluestem entities invoice payment and revenue applications.

· Assist in the maintenance and training efforts for Concur expense reimbursement and invoice processing.

 

General Ledger Maintenance:

· Maintain and reconcile the general ledger accounts, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded.

· Perform regular account reconciliations (e.g. bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, etc.) and resolve discrepancies.

 

Month-End and Year-End Close:

· Oversee and assist in the preparation of month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion.

· Coordinate with other departments to gather necessary financial data for closing.

 

Audit and Compliance:

· Assist in the preparation of work papers for external audits and liaise with auditors to provide necessary documentation and clarification.

· Ensure adherence to internal controls, company policies, and applicable regulations.

 

Tax Compliance:

· Assist in the preparation of tax returns and filings, including sales tax, income tax, and other regulatory filings as required.

· Stay up to date with changes in tax laws and ensure the company remains compliant.

 

Budgeting & Forecasting:

· Assist with the preparation and monitoring of budgets and forecasts for Bluestem entities and work with third party management companies.

· Provide regular reports on budget performance and identify potential financial risks or opportunities.

 

Process Improvement:

· Identify opportunities for process improvements in the accounting functions and implement best practices.

· Maintain and enhance accounting systems and procedures to increase efficiency and accuracy.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

 

EDUCATION, SKILLS, and/or EXPERIENCE

· Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is preferred.

· Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.

· Experience in financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, and preparing for audits.

· Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial statements, and reporting.

· Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Great Plaines, NetSuite, QuickBooks, etc.) and Microsoft Suite, including Excel.

· Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work with third party management companies.

· Good communication skills, both verbal and written.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience with financial analysis and budgeting.

· Familiarity with tax laws and regulations.

· Experience in a specific industry (e.g., manufacturing, retail, non-profit, etc.) may be an advantage.
