Course Description

Approximately 70% of the U.S. population lives in a state where cannabis is legal under state law for medicinal or recreational purposes. Yet cannabis is still illegal under Federal law. Many co-ops and agriculture companies prohibit employees from working while impaired. What is the law in this evolving area? What can employers do or restrict? Bring your own munchies and enjoy this informative session on cannabis in the workplace.

Presenter and Moderator Bios
Mike Droke is a partner in the Agribusiness and Employment Law practices of the international law firm Dorsey & Whitney. He started his career as a client, not a lawyer. He represented the same company where he worked in management, thus “walking both sides of the street.”
As a lawyer, Mike had devoted his practice to practical, results-oriented advice and litigation representation in situations where the law, facts or business risks are ambiguous.
Mike’s practice is devoted to the areas of employment law, agriculture and cooperative law, and in the food and agriculture industries. He has litigated employment and labor issues across Washington and California and advised across the United States.

Michael Weiner is a partner in Dorsey's Corporate Group and the head of the Corporate department in Denver. His practice focuses on the representation of emerging growth companies in the areas of corporate formation, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and angel finance, and securities regulation.
Michael represents public and private companies in a variety of industries, including biotech/medical device, renewable energy, cannabis, Internet and software. In addition, he counsels Boards of Directors and management teams in the areas of equity compensation, corporate governance, Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulatory and disclosure matters.
Michael advises clients on intellectual property licensing and commercial contract matters.
