Course Description

This session will revolve around the Electric Coop and will discuss how to set margin requirements to achieve a target level of equity while redeeming patronage capital on a consistent basis; the importance of following work plan goals for funding plant through long-term debt; the drafting of a sample policy and the drivers that are different for each cooperative; and creating a policy that is effective in both good and bad times.

Presenter and Moderator Bios
Rod Crile retired from CFC in 2015 after working 13 years as a Regional Vice President. During that time, in addition to his normal CFC duties, Rod also was an instructor for NRECA, teaching financial-related classes to electric cooperative board and staff members.

Prior to joining CFC, Rod was Vice President of Business and Engineering Systems and Support for NISC, formerly CADP. Other positions held with NISC include Member Support Director, Industry Advancement Manager, and Cost and General Accounting Administrator.

Rod also held various accounting positions for two Ohio rural electric cooperatives—Licking Rural Electric Cooperative and Washington Electric Cooperative. Rod started his professional career working for Borden, Inc., in Columbus, Ohio.

Combining his tenure at NISC, CFC and the two electric cooperatives, Rod has more than 36 years of experience working with cooperatives across the United States.

Rod earned his degree in accounting from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

Rod and his wife Cindy live in the St. Louis area and have five children and three grandchildren.

Delivery System

  • Confirmations will include log-in instructions.
  • Participants are able to participate using any device with an Internet connect (if the device does not have speakers, the participant can also dial-in) or they can participate with audio only by dialing in.
  • All registrants will receive a link to the CLN’s recording by email within 48 business hours of event’s conclusion.
  • There will be assistance available to help with technical and connectivity issues up to 10 minutes prior to the start of the presentation.

Registration

All registration is done on-line and each guest must provide their name and email address to participate. All NSAC members may register for free. Non-members may register for a nominal fee.

Refund Policy

NSAC will not issue refunds for CLNs. If a registrant is unable to participate in the CLN and provides notification to info@nsacoop.org 48 hours prior to the session, a credit will be provided for a future CLN. Alert the NSAC staff member monitoring the CLN if technical difficulties are encountered and technical support will be provided to eliminate problems with future CLNs.

Additional Information

Live participation is required for CPE credit and polling questions must be answered to document your active participation. All registrants will receive an email following the session with links to the slides and/or handouts, and a link to the CLN recording (unless otherwise stated). If you are unable to participate in the live session, you can still watch the recorded session, but you will not be eligible for CPE credits. Those eligible for credits will receive their certificate by email with 7 business days.
